Sharps "Buffalo Rifle" SN 161951 Caliber 45 with 2 7/8" Cartridge Factory letter indicates the
following: ".... invoiced to Sharps Western dealer, Ben Kittridge and
Co., Cincinnati, Ohio. It is noted
as a Model 1874 Sporting Octagon
Rifle. The calibre was .45 using
the 2 7/8" case. It had a full
30" octagonal barrel, double set triggers and open sights. The weight was 14 lbs. 7 oz.
and the list price was $44." The
barrel measure 1 1/4" across the flats. The butt stock has been replaced at
some time in the life of this rifle, with a Sharps carbine stock. The
barrel has been shortened during period of use and now measures approx.
28-3/4".
